Lai Mohammed Condemns Kwara Church Attack, Mourns Victims
Nigeria’s former Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Lai Mohammed, has condemned the deadly attack on the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, where terrorists killed two worshippers and abducted more than 30 others.
The attackers, who stormed the church during a service, were captured on the church’s live-stream before carting away congregants in what authorities have described as a coordinated assault.
In a statement issued on Friday, November 21, Mohammed said he received news of the attack with “deep sorrow,” describing the incident as heartbreaking.
He noted that the violence inflicted on innocent worshippers was a “tragic blow” not only to the victims and their families but to the nation at large.
Calling the killings “senseless,” the former minister said his thoughts and prayers were with the bereaved families and those whose loved ones were taken captive. He also extended his condolences to all affected and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Mohammed commended the Kwara State Government for its swift response to the incident, praising Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for taking immediate action. He also lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for promptly addressing the humanitarian concerns and directing the deployment of extensive security assets to hunt down the perpetrators.
“Their timely intervention underscores the commitment of both the state and federal governments to protect every life and ensure that those behind this heinous act are brought to justice,” he said.
Mohammed urged Nigerians to remain united, vigilant, and resolute in the face of the tragedy.
