Gov Diri Urges PDP to Focus on Internal Reforms, Not APC Blame
Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to prioritize resolving its internal challenges rather than blaming the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if it aims to be an effective opposition.
Speaking after the inauguration of the PDP South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee, Diri emphasized that while it might be tempting to criticize the APC, the true strength of the PDP as an opposition party lies in addressing its own shortcomings.
“We must turn our attention inward. As the chairman of the Board of Trustees rightly pointed out, our priority should be resolving our internal issues first,” Diri stated.
He stressed that for the PDP to compete effectively, it must fix its internal challenges instead of accusing external forces. “The PDP has to sit back, work on its problems, and only then can we stand strong against other political parties. We are the oldest political party in Nigeria, and we have no reason to keep blaming outsiders.”
Diri reaffirmed the South-South zone’s commitment to unity, highlighting that the region remains a stronghold for the PDP, with four governors aligned in their efforts to strengthen the party. He urged the zonal caretaker committee to fulfill its mandate by working towards consolidating the party’s influence in the region.
“The political will rests with the party members. Once we all agree that fixing the PDP is a priority, no single individual will be bigger than the party,” he concluded.
