Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Special Adviser to Vice President Kashim Shettima, has advised Atiku Abubakar not to contest in the 2027 presidential election, urging him to make way for a new generation of leaders.
Speaking on Channels Television, Baba-Ahmed said Atiku’s generation has “done its bit” and the time has come to embrace fresh energy and ideas that can move the country forward.
“It would be a masterstroke if Atiku supports new voices and leadership,” he said, recommending Atiku adopt a fatherly role, much like Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.
Baba-Ahmed, who once served as the spokesperson of the Arewa Consultative Forum, believes this move could spark a political transformation within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and build a political culture rooted in merit, unity, and progress.
He concluded that the PDP could still pose a serious challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 — if it backs a younger, visionary candidate.
