Ifeanyi Okowa: South-east Votes will Be for Only PDP and Labour Party | THISDAYLIVE

Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has admitted he regrets accepting the position of vice presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections.

In an interview with Arise News on Tuesday, following his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Okowa revealed he realized during the campaign that many Southerners did not support another Northerner succeeding Muhammadu Buhari.

“Even when we were campaigning, I realised our people were not interested in having another northerner come into power,” he said.
“In retrospect, I now believe I should have gone with the will of my people.”

He pointed to the PDP’s loss in the presidential election in Delta State, despite the party’s victory in the governorship race, as evidence that voters were dissatisfied with the party’s presidential ticket.

Okowa also dismissed claims that he joined the APC to evade investigation by the EFCC, saying he had no fear of any probe and had “done well” for Delta people.
