Victor Osimhen continued his sensational season by scoring during Galatasaray’s dominant 5-1 victory over Eyupspor, a key match in the Turkish Super Lig title race. His goal was his 31st of the season, equalling his personal best set with Napoli in the 2022/23 campaign.
Following the match, Turkish pundit Ilker Yagcioglu hailed Osimhen’s all-round contribution. He emphasized that Osimhen is not only prolific in front of goal but also helps significantly in defence, posting defensive stats comparable to Galatasaray’s midfield dynamo Lucas Torreira.
Yagcioglu stated:
“The offensive side of the game aside. He made 4 clearances, blocked 2 shots, and intercepted 2 passes. His defensive statistics are the same as Torreira’s. He won 11 of 15 duels. The guy already scores goals like crazy and helps the defence. Having such a player is every coach’s dream.”
Yagcioglu also noted that Osimhen’s impact will be remembered for decades by Galatasaray fans, comparing his decisive influence this season to Mauro Icardi’s in the previous campaign.
Meanwhile, Lucas Torreira, who has also found form recently with goals in three of his last four matches, joked about chasing Osimhen’s “throne” as the team’s top performer.
Torreira, speaking to galatasaray.org, said:
“I told Victor to be careful, I have my eyes on his throne.”
This season, Torreira has tallied five goals and seven assists in 44 games, while Osimhen boasts an impressive 31 goals and eight assists in just 36 appearances.
