Google has increased the price of its ad-free streaming platform, YouTube Premium, by 54% in Nigeria, citing efforts to improve the service and support content creators.
According to a notice sent to subscribers over the weekend, the individual plan has risen from ₦1,100 to ₦1,700, while the family plan saw a significant jump of over 64%, from ₦1,700 to ₦2,800.
“We don’t make these decisions lightly…” — YouTube
In an email sent to Nigerian subscribers, YouTube explained:
“To continue delivering great service and features, we’re increasing your price to ₦1,700.00/month. We don’t make these decisions lightly, but this update will allow us to continue to improve YouTube Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.”
The new prices will take effect from each user’s next billing date.
What YouTube Premium Offers
While YouTube remains free, its Premium service offers:

Globally, YouTube announced in February 2024 that it had hit 100 million paid users across YouTube Music and YouTube Premium.
The price increase is not limited to Nigeria. Reports show that South African subscribers have also seen a hike in their YouTube Premium fees, pointing to a broader regional price adjustment strategy by Google.
