Northern Governors Condemn Plateau Attacks, Vow Action Against Insecurity

The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has strongly condemned the recent deadly attacks on five communities in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing the violence as “senseless” and a serious threat to regional stability and national unity.

In a statement issued in Gombe, the Forum’s Chairman and Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, expressed deep sorrow over the killings, which claimed several lives and injured many—mostly women and children.

Governor Yahaya, speaking through Ismaila Uba-Misilli, Director-General of Press Affairs at the Gombe Government House, said the cycle of violence in rural communities must end.

“The sanctity of human life must never be taken for granted. These heinous attacks on innocent people are totally unacceptable and must be condemned by all,” he stated.

Commendation for Plateau Governor and Security Forces

The Forum praised Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his swift response and the proactive measures taken following the incident. Yahaya also acknowledged the efforts of security agencies in restoring calm to the affected areas.

Call for Justice, Dialogue, and Peacebuilding

Governor Yahaya urged security forces to track down the perpetrators and ensure justice is served. He also called for tolerance, peacebuilding, and mutual understanding, especially between farmers and herders in the region.

“As Northern governors, we will continue to take deliberate steps to end this cycle of violence by strengthening security collaboration, promoting dialogue, and implementing policies that encourage peace and unity,” he said.

He further appealed to community leaders, religious figures, and civil society groups to join hands with the government in preaching peace, tolerance, and forgiveness.
