The Rivers State Police Command is investigating an explosion at the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP), located at the border of Kpor and Bodo communities in Rivers State.
As part of the probe, two individuals have been taken in for questioning. The police are working to determine what caused the explosion and who might be responsible.
According to a statement from the Police Command, signed by spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the explosion happened at the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC)-operated pipeline. Security operatives on a routine night patrol discovered the incident and immediately alerted SPDC management.
The affected pipeline was quickly shut down as part of safety measures, and officials say the situation is now under control, posing no further risk to residents or the environment.
The police have assured the public that they are conducting a thorough investigation, including looking into possible sabotage. They also reaffirmed their commitment to bringing anyone responsible to justice.
