Nkem Onwudiwe - Chief Executor - Her Network | LinkedIn

Nkem Onwudiwe is a Public Relations and Marketing Consultant dedicated to amplifying women’s voices and stories. As the Founder and Chief Executor of Her Network, she leads a global platform that connects and empowers women through storytelling and community building. With a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Nigeria, Nkem has worked with top brands, managed PR for leading organizations, and organized high-impact events like Her Summit, which brings together change-makers across industries.

In this interview, she shares insights into her career, her passion for women’s empowerment, and what it takes to drive meaningful change.

Your Career Journey: What Prepared You for This Path?

Looking back, my career has been a long but fulfilling journey—honestly, I could write an entire book about it!

I started at Inspire Africa Limited, founded by media mogul Mo Abudu, where I worked as an audience coordinator for Moments with Mo. Eventually, I was promoted to manage PR for the company, applying my marketing background to real-world projects.

That experience became the foundation of my communications career, leading me to work with brands like Soul Muzik (Deola Art-Alade’s talent management agency), Easy Taxi, Hello Food Nigeria (now Jumia Food), the Tony Elumelu Foundation, and Transcorp Group, among others. Each role sharpened my skills and shaped me into the professional I am today.

Your Experience in PR & Marketing Communications

Over the last 15+ years, I’ve worked across entertainment, food and beverage, nonprofit, oil and gas, and more. These experiences have taught me how to adapt communication strategies to different audiences and industries.

As a PR & Communications Consultant, my passion is helping brands and individuals stand out. I develop visibility strategies that ensure their messages are heard—authentically and on the right platforms.

Making an Impact with Her Network

Thank you for recognizing our efforts! At Her Network, most of our work happens online because we want to reach women worldwide.

We highlight the stories of phenomenal women making an impact, ensuring their achievements don’t go unnoticed. By showcasing these inspiring journeys, we hope to motivate more women to live up to their fullest potential.

Beyond digital storytelling, we also organize high-profile events where women from diverse sectors connect, share knowledge, and access growth opportunities.

The Impact of Her Summit

Her Summit is one of our biggest initiatives—it’s not just a gathering, but a catalyst for transformation.

The event brings together women leaders and professionals annually, offering a space to share career advice, life lessons, and resources. More importantly, it has helped facilitate real connections—from mentorships to business partnerships—that have led to tangible growth and success stories.

Seeing the impact firsthand has been incredibly rewarding.

Challenges Limiting Women’s Growth

Through my work at Her Network, I’ve seen firsthand the barriers holding women back:

  • Limited access to opportunities – Whether in education, mentorship, or professional networks, many women struggle to access the resources needed for growth.
  • Cultural & societal norms – Expectations around gender roles often restrict women’s career advancements.
  • Balancing multiple responsibilities – The pressure to juggle career, family, and societal duties can slow personal and professional progress.

The good news? More women are stepping into leadership roles, creating pathways for change. But we need a collective effort—organizations, policies, and communities must work together to remove these barriers.

What Drives Your Success?

I’m driven by my vision of a world where women have the tools, support, and encouragement to succeed—on their own terms.

That vision keeps me motivated and reminds me why my work matters.

How Can More Women Rise to the Top?

Success isn’t one-size-fits-all—it means different things to different people. For some, it’s financial stability; for others, it’s family, career growth, or personal fulfillment.

For young women looking to rise in their careers, the key is an insatiable hunger for success. Despite challenges (which are inevitable), you must: Actively seek opportunities, be consistent in your efforts, trust the process.

And most importantly, never stop learning. Be a self-starter and a finisher—someone who sees tasks through to the end.

Lessons from Your Journey

I’ve learned a few key things:

  1. Your uniqueness is your strength. No one else brings exactly what you do to the table.
  2. Logic and intuition can work hand in hand. Trust both.
  3. Being bold (or even slightly delusional) about your goals can pay off. Dream big, but also put in the work.
  4. Ask for help. Sometimes, the person next to you has the solution to a problem you’ve been struggling with alone.

What Would You Love to See Nigerian Women Do Differently?

I’d love to see more Nigerian women genuinely support each other—not just in words, but in actions.

Also, I want to see more women own their identity unapologetically—not shrinking themselves to fit into societal expectations. We have so much potential, but we must be bold enough to step into our power.

Your Life Mantra?

“All is well.”

It keeps me focused on the positive and reminds me that everything is working out in my favor.

Final Thoughts

Nkem Onwudiwe’s journey is a testament to the power of storytelling, connection, and relentless ambition. Through Her Network, she continues to elevate women’s voices and create opportunities for success.

Her message? Keep striving, stay consistent, and always support other women on their journeys.
