A 34-year-old travel agent, Segun Ilemobayo, was arraigned on Thursday at the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over allegations of visa fraud and theft.
The defendant is accused of obtaining N6,975,000 under false pretence from one Mrs. Osuji, claiming he would help secure a work visa to Luxembourg for her husband—a promise he allegedly failed to fulfill.
According to ASP Musbau Lawal, the prosecution, the offences were committed between September and October 2024 at Ojoo, Ibadan. Instead of delivering on the visa, Ilemobayo allegedly diverted the funds for personal use.
The charges—obtaining by false pretence and stealing—are in violation of Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Ilemobayo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Olaolu Olanipekun granted him bail set at N1 million, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the matter to May 21 for hearing.
