After 56 days in captivity, former Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Major General Maharazu Tsiga (retd.), has regained his freedom.
He was kidnapped on the 5th of February 2025 at Tsiga, Bakori Local Government Area, Katsina State. 10 others were abducted, including Tsiga. Conflicting reports suggest between ₦60 million and ₦180 million was paid for his release.
Despite initial ransom payments by his family, the kidnappers refused to release him immediately, holding him for additional weeks.
Security expert Deji Adesogan confirmed Tsiga’s release to The Guardian, though authorities have not officially commented on the incident.
Tsiga’s abduction highlights growing security concerns in Northern Nigeria, where kidnappings for ransom remain a major crisis.
