President Bola Tinubu has revealed that his administration removed the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to accelerate development and enhance resident participation in governance.
Speaking during a Sallah homage at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday, Tinubu explained that the bureaucracy tied to TSA was slowing down infrastructure growth in the capital city, necessitating the change.
“The FCT Minister came to me and said, ‘Please take us out of the problem of the TSA so that I can do more work and achieve more.’ He presented his vision, and I agreed. Since then, everything has started changing rapidly,” Tinubu said.
The President highlighted significant improvements since the policy shift, including infrastructure expansion, resuscitation of abandoned projects, upgraded healthcare facilities, and better security measures.
He praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for his leadership and restructuring of the FCT public service, emphasizing that removing bureaucratic hurdles has allowed for tangible progress.
“We can now celebrate the innovative ideas brought to the FCT. We are not looking for magic; we are looking for results,” Tinubu added.
Encouraging unity, the President urged Nigerians to focus on performance rather than ethnic or religious differences.
The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, described the visit as historic and reaffirmed his commitment to completing key projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The event was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Information Minister Mohammed Idris, and other key government officials, religious leaders, and representatives of the FCT community
