Nigeria is looking to deepen its economic ties with China through increased investments and advanced technology transfer, Minister of Works, Senator David Nweze Umahi, said on Wednesday.
Speaking during a courtesy visit from the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Yu Dunhai, in Abuja, Umahi highlighted the significant role Chinese firms—such as CCECC, CHEC, CBC, and CGC—play in Nigeria’s infrastructure development. He urged China to further support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic agenda by boosting investment and technology flow into the country.
The minister praised China’s world-class infrastructure expertise and called for the transfer of such advanced technologies to Nigeria, alongside specialized training programs for Nigerian engineers.
According to a statement from Mohammed Ahmed, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Works, Umahi also pushed for the speedy implementation of the Naira swap deal, which he believes will enhance trade and financial transactions between both nations.
In response, Ambassador Yu Dunhai lauded Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity and entrepreneurial spirit. He recognized the country’s growing role in global trade and praised President Tinubu’s leadership in delivering quality infrastructure.
Dunhai assured the Minister of China’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expressed optimism about the Naira swap deal, especially with Nigeria’s recent entry into the BRICS economic bloc.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State, Bello Mohammad Goronyo, Esq., Permanent Secretary Olufunso Adeniyi, and other senior officials from the ministry.
