A recent incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra State, has garnered significant attention. A 300-level student from the Department of History and International Studies, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, was expelled for assaulting Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.
The altercation occurred when Dr. Okoye inadvertently walked into the frame of a TikTok video Precious was recording on campus. After he interrupted her recording, a confrontation ensued, during which Precious physically attacked Dr. Okoye, reportedly biting him and tearing his clothing.
Following the incident, the university’s Student Disciplinary Committee conducted a thorough review and found Precious guilty of gross misconduct, specifically violating Regulation 4 of the Students Disciplinary Regulations. Consequently, an official expulsion letter dated February 13, 2025, and signed by Acting Registrar Mr. Victor I. Modebelu, was issued, mandating her immediate departure from the university premises and the return of any university property in her possession.
This decisive action underscores UNIZIK’s commitment to maintaining discipline and upholding its code of conduct within the academic community.
