The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Abubakar Iliyasu in connection with the murder of Jane Okoye, a 65-year-old woman killed in the Orile-Iganmu area of Lagos.
The suspect was tracked down and captured in Kogi State after an intensive manhunt, according to a statement by police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin.
How It Happened
Investigations revealed that Iliyasu forcibly entered the victim’s home, where he reportedly stole her Toyota Sienna and fled the scene. The victim was found unconscious and rushed to a hospital, where she was later confirmed dead.
Following the incident, the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where homicide detectives employed both intelligence gathering and technical tools to trace the suspect across state lines.
“The suspect was caught in possession of the stolen vehicle and other personal belongings of the victim. The car has been recovered and is now being held as evidence,” Hundeyin said.
What’s Next
The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Olohunde Jimoh, assured the public that the suspect will face justice.
“He will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the commissioner confirmed.
Authorities praised the swift efforts of the SCID team and encouraged members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activity.
