Former Special Adviser to Vice President Kashim Shettima on Political Matters, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has declared that the North will soon decide its political direction ahead of the 2027 elections, emphasizing that no politician can clinch the presidency without the region’s backing.
In a video circulating online, Baba-Ahmed urged Northerners to stay united and cautious of traitors aiming to divide the region from within. Reflecting on Boko Haram attacks during former President Buhari’s campaign years, he said both churches and mosques were targeted to destabilize the North.
“No politician can now say ‘Northerners, follow me’ without proving their worth. Who are you?” he asked defiantly.
He assured that in the next six months, the North would announce its political path, warning others to either align with it or be left behind.
Tinubu’s Performance Sparks Verbal Clash
Meanwhile, the Presidency has responded to criticism from Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in 2023, who recently said President Bola Tinubu should not bother contesting in 2027, insisting he would lose.
Presidential spokesman Sunday Dare dismissed the remarks, calling them “flawed and empty”, while defending Tinubu’s leadership:
“In less than two years, President Tinubu has shown the capacity to govern and re-engineer Nigeria like never before.”
He added that performance, not propaganda, will determine 2027:
“Baba-Ahmed and others will need all the marines available to defeat Tinubu,” he said confidently.
