The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed rumors of his collapse and alleged death, stating that he is healthy and focused on his job.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday after inspecting ongoing projects, Wike ridiculed those spreading the speculation, saying:
“I will sign the condolence registers of all persons who wished me dead.”
“I Did Not Collapse, I Did Not Travel”
Reports had circulated that Wike collapsed during a meeting in Abuja last Friday, was rushed abroad for treatment, and later passed away. However, the minister firmly debunked these claims:
“First of all, I am a human being, not a ghost. It is human beings that collapse if they have health problems. Unfortunately, I did not collapse, and I have shown no signs of any health issues.
There was no time I collapsed, and there was no time anybody took me overseas. You all saw me during the President’s iftar and at the Sallah homage with Abuja residents.”
“It’s Political Distraction”
Wike linked the rumors to his political rivals, particularly after the recent allegations against suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
He referred to claims made by former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, who accused Fubara’s camp of planning to bomb the State House of Assembly and attack national assets.
“In order to divert attention from that, they had to start a rumor that I was flown overseas.”
Despite the controversy, Wike reassured Nigerians that he remains healthy and committed to his duties in the FCT.
