The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the death of six persons and the destruction of 14 vehicles in a devastating accident near Nyanya Bridge, Abuja, on Tuesday evening.
According to the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the tragic incident occurred around 6:58 PM when a Dangote trailer, heavily loaded with cement, lost control and crashed into stationary vehicles stuck in traffic. The impact triggered a massive fire, engulfing multiple vehicles and sending bystanders into a panic.
Emergency responders, including police, fire service personnel, and other security agencies, rushed to the scene to contain the inferno and rescue victims.
“Six victims were pulled from the wreckage and rushed to the hospital, but sadly, they were confirmed dead by medical personnel. Their remains have been deposited at Karu General Hospital Morgue,” Adeh stated.
Authorities have since restored normal traffic flow, and a full investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash and prevent future occurrences.
The FCT Police Command extended its condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to exercise caution, adhere to speed limits, and remain vigilant, especially in high-traffic areas.
Residents are encouraged to report emergencies and suspicious activities through the FCT Command’s emergency numbers.
