A devastating explosion rocked the Abuja-Keffi Expressway near Karu Bridge on Wednesday evening, leaving an unconfirmed number of people feared dead and many others injured.
The incident, which occurred during rush hour, was triggered by a gas tanker that burst into flames, engulfing several vehicles and cutting off the busy highway in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Eyewitnesses reported multiple explosions following the initial blast, sparking widespread panic among commuters. Many were forced to abandon their vehicles as the fire raged.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other security agencies, rushed to the scene to provide rescue efforts and contain the situation.
As of 8:30 p.m., heavy gridlock persisted in both directions of the expressway, leaving motorists stranded and further complicating rescue operations.
