A Nigerian police inspector, Ajele Oloyede, has reportedly taken his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The tragic incident occurred on Thursday at a ceramics company in Igbesa, Ogun State, where Oloyede was stationed as part of the security team.
According to reports from PUNCH Online, the incident was discovered by Tolorunloju Stephen, an officer from the Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos. Stephen had just returned from Ikeja around 1:20 p.m. when he found Oloyede resting his head on a table inside the security office.
Concerned, Stephen asked if he was okay, to which Oloyede responded that he was fine. Stephen then placed his bag and pistol on the table before stepping into the restroom. Moments later, a gunshot rang out.
Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that Stephen rushed back and found Oloyede lying in a pool of blood. With the help of private security personnel, he was immediately taken to Ota General Hospital, where doctors later pronounced him dead.
Officers visited the scene, recovered Oloyede’s pistol, and transferred his body to the hospital morgue for an autopsy. Meanwhile, his family is being notified, and the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran for further investigation.
