Renowned entertainer, entrepreneur, and politician, Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, has officially left the All-Progressives Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In a statement released on Friday morning in Abuja, MC Tagwaye explained that his decision came after months of deep reflection and extensive consultation.
As a former member of the presidential campaign team in the last general election, MC Tagwaye expressed disappointment in APC’s leadership direction, stating that the party has strayed from its founding ideals and is no longer prioritizing the welfare of Nigerians.
He highlighted key reasons for his defection, including:
Lack of Reward for Loyal Members – Long-time supporters and party faithful, he claims, are not adequately recognized or rewarded.
Gerontocratic Leadership – The dominance of older politicians at the expense of youth representation.
Harsh Economic Policies – Policies that, according to him, continue to burden low-income earners.
Compromised Internal Democracy – He accused the APC of allowing a few power brokers to dictate decisions, sidelining the voices of the majority.
In contrast, MC Tagwaye described the SDP as a “beacon of hope” for Nigeria, emphasizing its commitment to:
youth inclusion, Internal democracy, transparency and accountability
“The SDP’s vision for a new Nigeria, where the welfare and progress of all citizens are paramount, resonates deeply with me,” he stated.
Having officially resigned from APC at the ward level, MC Tagwaye is ready to embark on a new political journey with SDP.
He also called on Nigerians who share his vision for a better country to join him, saying:
“Together, we can create a brighter future for ourselves, our children, and our great nation.”
With the 2027 elections approaching, his move could signal a shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, especially among young and progressive leaders.
