A young woman from Tse Uzo, Zaki Biam in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State has tragically passed away in Libya. The heartbreaking incident occurred on Monday, March 10, 2025.
Akuraga Joseph, a Nigerian based in Libya, was alerted about her critical condition and rushed to assist her. According to Joseph, he found the young woman in a deteriorating state, with severe swelling in her stomach and jaundiced eyes—signs of a serious health crisis.
“I intended to take her home, but I was informed that the Nigerian Union was coming to see her,” Joseph recounted. Unfortunately, upon his return the next morning at 10 a.m., she had already passed away.
Medical reports later confirmed that she died due to kidney failure, raising concerns about her access to proper medical care in Libya. Her tragic death has sparked discussions on the plight of Nigerian migrants abroad and the need for better support systems.
Joseph has since made an urgent appeal to anyone who can reach her family in Nigeria.
“Please, if you know anyone from Tse Uzo, inform them to contact me. Her father’s name is Uba from Tse Uzo. It’s important that her family is made aware of this unfortunate situation,” he wrote.
This incident sheds light on the harsh realities many Nigerian migrants face in Libya, where reports of poor working conditions, lack of access to medical care, and exploitation are rampant. It calls for stronger intervention by the Nigerian government and humanitarian organizations to protect its citizens abroad.
Efforts are ongoing to notify her family and repatriate her remains if possible. Meanwhile, this tragedy serves as a reminder of the urgent need for improved welfare programs for Nigerians seeking opportunities abroad.
For those with any information regarding her family, please reach out to the concerned authorities or Akuraga Joseph directly.
