FEDERAL MINISTRY OF HOUSING & URBAN DEVELOPMENT

In a major step toward solving Nigeria’s housing crisis, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has announced that the Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme will soon be officially launched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Minister shared this development during a meeting with a delegation from Creative Sphere Limited at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

What’s the Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme About?

The initiative is designed to provide affordable homes for:

  1. Low-income earners
  2. Unemployed Nigerians
  3. Vulnerable groups
  4. Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)

And it targets both the formal and informal sectors.

Key Highlights of the Programme

  • 100 housing units will be built in each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas, totaling 77,400 homes.

  • Construction is expected to be completed within one year of the official launch.

  • The homes will come with support infrastructure like: A primary school, police outpost, health clinic, Recreational areas and a shopping mall.

Affordability for All

The minister emphasized the programme’s inclusiveness, explaining how any Nigerian earning as low as ₦30,000 a month can own a home:

“Beneficiaries will only need to pay one-third of their monthly income. That means ₦10,000 per month for someone earning ₦30,000, and ₦30,000 for someone earning ₦90,000,” said Dangiwa.

The programme goes a step further by allocating 20% of the houses free of charge to vulnerable citizens, including: Widows, orphans and People with little or no income.

This gesture reinforces the government’s commitment to inclusive social welfare.

Part of a Bigger Vision

The Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme is just one component of the broader Renewed Hope Housing Initiative, which also includes:

  1. Renewed Hope Housing Estates

  2. Renewed Hope Cities

  3. Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme

The entire strategy is being funded by the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund (RHIDF).

Creative Sphere Collaboration

During the meeting, Creative Sphere Limited’s Chairman, Monday Ogedengbe, shared plans for a housing-focused carnival event aimed at raising awareness of real estate’s role in national development. The company is seeking the ministry’s collaboration for the initiative, which will spotlight Nigeria’s growing real estate opportunities on a national and international stage.

This programme could be a game-changer for millions of Nigerians who have long struggled with housing insecurity. As the launch date nears, all eyes will be on how the government delivers on this ambitious promise.
