Nigeria’s Super Eagles are gearing up for a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Rwanda on March 21, driven by a sense of desperation to avoid missing out on a second consecutive World Cup.
Striker Victor Osimhen, who has been playing well for Galastaray this season emphasized the team’s determination to turn their campaign around. “Every footballer dreams of playing at the World Cup, and with our current situation, I’m desperate to make it to the 2026 tournament,” Osimhen said
The Super Eagles have had a disappointing start to their qualifying campaign, drawing three of their first four games in Group C. Osimhen acknowledged the pain of missing out on the 2022 World Cup, where Ghana edged them out in a playoff.
“We can’t afford to let history repeat itself,” Osimhen stressed. “We’re eager to make amends and secure our spot in the 2026 World Cup.”
New coach Eric Chelle faces a daunting task, with Nigeria trailing group leaders Rwanda by four points. The Super Eagles will need to secure positive results in their upcoming matches to revive their qualifying hopes.
Osimhen expressed optimism about the team’s chances under Chelle’s guidance. “We’re looking forward to the game against Rwanda and beyond. We’re desperate to correct our past mistakes and put ourselves in a better position to qualify.”
The Super Eagles will face Rwanda on March 21 and host Zimbabwe four days later. With six games remaining, Nigeria still has a chance to turn their campaign around and secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
