The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced that Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu will reopen for flight operations on Monday, April 28, 2025, following the completion of emergency runway repairs.
Speaking to journalists, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, confirmed that the runway has been cleared for safe landings and takeoffs by engineers.
FAAN had earlier closed the airport’s runway on April 18 after a sudden and significant rupture was discovered in a critical section of the asphalt surface. Repair works began on April 22, with an initial reopening date of May 6. However, the rehabilitation was completed ahead of schedule.
Appreciating the patience and cooperation of airport users and stakeholders, FAAN apologised for the inconvenience caused, stressing that all actions were taken in the interest of public safety.
