UBA Launches Afrigo Card to Simplify Payments in Nigeria

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has introduced the Afrigo Card, a new domestic payment card designed to make financial transactions easier and more secure in Nigeria.

Developed in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), the Afrigo Card offers a reliable, naira-based alternative to international payment cards.

Why the Afrigo Card Matters

UBA says the Afrigo Card is built to: Simplify payments at ATMs and POS terminals nationwide, enhance security with chip-and-PIN protection, promote financial inclusion for students, traders, and small business owners, Encourage cashless transactions with biometric authentication and offline payment options

UBA’s Commitment to Financial Innovation

Shamsideen Fashola, UBA’s Group Head of Retail and Digital Banking, highlighted the bank’s focus on financial accessibility and security.

“With Afrigo, we are offering a card that meets the everyday needs of Nigerians—whether they are students, business owners, or low-income earners,” Fashola said.

He also emphasized the card’s affordability, positioning UBA as a leader in financial innovation and inclusion.

The Afrigo Card aligns with the CBN’s push for a cashless economy, making digital payments more convenient and accessible for Nigerians.
