The Nigerian music industry continues to thrive globally, not just in cultural influence but also in financial success. In 2024, Nigerian artistes recorded an impressive 1.1 million streaming hours, generating ₦58 billion in earnings—double the revenue from 2023 and five times that of 2022.

This remarkable achievement was highlighted in Spotify’s annual ‘Loud & Clear’ report, which provides transparency on royalty payments and the global streaming economy.

According to the report, the number of Nigerian artistes earning at least ₦10 million in royalties has more than doubled since 2023 and tripled compared to 2022. This underscores the global commercial growth of Nigerian music.

Speaking at an event in Lagos, Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy, Managing Director of Spotify Sub-Saharan Africa, emphasized the platform’s commitment to empowering Nigerian artists:

“The incredible growth of Nigerian music, both locally and globally, is a testament to the talent and creativity within Nigeria. We remain committed to helping artists earn from their craft while maintaining transparency with all stakeholders.”

Key Highlights from the 2024 Report:

  1. 1 billion+ first-time discoveries – Nigerian artistes were streamed by new listeners over one billion times in 2024.
  2. 1,900+ artistes featured on playlists – A 33% increase in Nigerian artistes being added to Spotify editorial playlists compared to 2023.
  3. Global appeal driving revenue – A large portion of the ₦58 billion in royalties came from listeners outside Nigeria
  4. 250 million+ user-generated playlists – Fans worldwide are curating millions of playlists featuring Nigerian artistes.
  5. Explosive export growth – Nigerian music exports have grown by 49% over three years.
  6. Massive local streaming surge – Domestic consumption of Nigerian content has skyrocketed 206% year-over-year, with a 782% growth over three years.

The Future of Nigerian Music

The record-breaking revenue and global reach of Nigerian artistes reaffirm the unstoppable rise of Afrobeats and other genres from the country. As streaming continues to fuel the industry, platforms like Spotify are playing a crucial role in expanding Nigerian music’s influence worldwide.

With such exponential growth, 2025 could be an even bigger year for Nigerian artistes on the global stage.
