Portable hospitalised after return from UK tour

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been sentenced to three months in prison by the Magistrate Court in Ifo, Ogun State, for assault and theft, with an option of N30,000 fine.

Delivering judgment on Tuesday, Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo found Portable guilty of assaulting Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi and stealing music equipment including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor, studio interface cables, and an AKG P420 microphone.

Portable was given:

  1. One month in prison or N10,000 fine for assault
  2. Two months in prison or N20,000 fine for theft

The singer had originally been arraigned in April 2023 but failed to attend court proceedings, prompting his re-arrest last week. He had earlier been granted bail of N300,000 with two sureties.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Olumide Awoleke, told the court the offence occurred on November 18, 2022, in Okeosa, Ilogbo, under the Ifo Magisterial District.

The court found Portable guilty under multiple provisions of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006, including:

  • Section 517 – Conspiracy to commit felony

  • Section 351 – Unlawful assault

  • Section 390 – Theft of property
