The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that a female candidate in the ongoing 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) refused to attempt any question, following her grandfather’s instruction to await a “miraculous intervention.”
JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, disclosed the incident in a statement on Saturday, though details such as the candidate’s name, state, or CBT centre were not provided.
According to Benjamin, the candidate sat for the exam on April 26 but made no attempt to answer any questions, believing divine help would provide the answers as instructed by her grandfather.
“Of course, such miracles do not happen with JAMB,” Benjamin remarked, cautioning candidates against relying on superstition instead of preparation and hard work.
The bizarre incident highlights ongoing concerns about the impact of superstitious beliefs on education and the risks of neglecting personal effort in academic achievement.
