UTME 2025: JAMB sanctions CBT centres for data mismatches

More than 211,000 candidates across Nigeria participated in the 2025 Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Thursday, according to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed the figure while monitoring the exercise at a CBT centre in Bwari, Abuja.

“We want to compare the performance across different batches, but by tomorrow (Friday), the results will be out,” he said.

Why the Mock Exam?

Prof. Oloyede explained that the mock exam helps test JAMB’s readiness for the main UTME and is used to experiment with new strategies to improve the exam experience.

“We are learning from the mock level to enhance our preparations for the main exam,” he noted.

Warning to Candidates: Beware of Rogue Websites

The JAMB boss expressed concern about students falling for fraudulent schemes in a bid to cheat, revealing that about 180 students have already paid into a decoy website set up by JAMB to trap such activities.

“To attempt to cheat is already an infraction,” he warned. “Their results will be cancelled — both UTME and Direct Entry.”

Oloyede also urged candidates to avoid giving out their registration numbers or registering by proxy, emphasizing that UTME is an individual-based exam, not a school-based one.

“Some candidates are paying up to ₦30,000 for fake assistance. It’s a waste — it won’t work.”

The main 2025 UTME will kick off on April 25 across approved CBT centres nationwide. A total of 2,030,627 candidates have registered for the exam.
