The Vice Chancellor of the newly established Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia (FUASK), Kaduna State, Professor William Barnabas Qurix, has assured that admissions and employment at the institution will be strictly based on merit.
Speaking after resuming duty alongside other principal officers following their inauguration by the Minister of Education, Professor Qurix reaffirmed his commitment to building a world-class citadel of learning dedicated to excellence in Applied Sciences.
“Our mission is to train men and women, equipping them with knowledge and skills that drive transformational development and progress. This requires focus, hard work, partnerships, and transnational education linkages. We will knock on the doors of world universities to seek partnerships,” he stated.
Emphasizing that students must earn their admission scores on merit, Qurix said the university has the potential to positively impact Nigeria by producing skilled professionals in Applied Sciences.
He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for entrusting him with the role of pioneer Vice Chancellor, pledging his total commitment to the university’s growth and development.
Professor Qurix also acknowledged key figures who played a role in establishing FUASK, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Uba Sani, Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, whose visionary leadership helped birth the university, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, the Pro-Chancellorm Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, Gen. M.L. Agwai, Justice K.B. Akaas, Dr. Durungwa, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, Engr. Andy Yakubu, and Rev. J. Hayab
The paramount ruler of Kachia, the Kachia Local Government Council Chairman, and the entire community were also recognized for their warm reception and pledge of support.
Chief of Defence Staff Pledges Support for FUASK
During a visit to the university, Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, expressed his commitment to assisting FUASK and thanked President Tinubu for approving the institution, which he described as a major milestone for Southern Kaduna.
Similarly, Dr. Manzo Maigari, Chairman of Kachia Local Government, and Hon. Peter Agite, lawmaker representing Kachia Constituency, lauded President Tinubu for establishing both the university and a new Federal Medical Centre, calling them critical investments in education and healthcare.
