Portable Speaks Out on VeryDarkMan’s Arrest, Calls for His Release

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has broken his silence regarding the arrest of outspoken social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, aka VeryDarkMan (VDM). In a video posted on his Instagram page, Portable urged for VDM’s immediate release, despite their previously strained relationship.

VDM was reportedly arrested on May 1, 2025, while assisting his mother at a GTBank branch over missing funds. His arrest sparked a wave of reactions online, with many Nigerians criticizing the circumstances surrounding the incident and demanding justice.

In his video, Portable emphasized that personal differences should not overshadow humanity. “Even if we’re fighting, it’s not till death,” he said. “He helps people, gives them food. I love people who help others. Please make una free VeryDarkMan.”

The “Zazu Zeh” crooner also took jabs at the rising trend of using the law to intimidate others, especially in the entertainment industry. He cautioned against closing bank accounts in protest and criticized the new wave of arrests reportedly happening in banks. “They will just tell them to lock your bank… that’s the new update,” he lamented.

Portable ended his message by calling for forgiveness from those VDM may have offended, urging peace and empathy above conflict.
