Nigerian lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has shared an update on the arrest of popular social commentator Martins Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Adeyanju confirmed that VDM is currently being held by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to Adeyanju, lawyers from his firm have been able to locate where VDM is being detained. However, VDM has reportedly refused to come out of his cell or see anyone — including his legal team.
“Our lawyers, led by Marvin Omorogbe, just met with VDM’s friend who was arrested with him and is also in EFCC custody,” Adeyanju wrote.
“VDM refused to come out of the cell. He said he won’t see anyone.”
Adeyanju also described how VDM and his friend were arrested. He claims they were trapped at a GTBank exit door for over five minutes, allowing EFCC officials to detain them.
“VDM was locked inside the GTB exit door for over 5 minutes to enable EFCC arrest him and his friend,” he added.
Adeyanju says legal action will be taken against GTBank for what he called “inhumane treatment” of their client. He also mentioned that a public statement will be issued soon.
