UI: Twin brothers bag first class

Busoye Opegbemi Matthias and Busoye Tolulope Matthew, twin brothers from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Ibadan (UI), have made an extraordinary mark in the institution’s history by graduating with identical first-class degrees, each with a CGPA of 3.94 out of 4.00.

The brothers were named Overall Best Graduating Students for the 2023/2024 academic session in both their department and the Faculty of Technology, a prestigious honor that highlights their exceptional academic prowess.

Matthias shared the incredible news with the public in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, celebrating this milestone.

A Remarkable Academic Journey

From their very first year in 100 level, the brothers displayed a consistent pattern of academic excellence. Their CGPAs steadily rose throughout their university years, culminating in identical first-class honors at graduation. Here’s a breakdown of their journey:

  • 100 Level: Matthias (3.84), Matthew (3.89)

  • 200 Level: Matthias (3.92), Matthew (3.94)

  • 300 Level: Matthias (3.95), Matthew (3.93)

Despite minor fluctuations, they maintained an outstanding academic record, proving that their consistency and dedication were key to their success.

Leadership and Impact

In addition to their academic achievements, the brothers also demonstrated leadership qualities throughout their time at UI. Matthias served as the Honourable Speaker of the UI Students’ Representative Council (UISU-SRC, 11th Assembly), while Matthew was the President of the Society of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Students (SEEEES-UI) for the 2023/2024 session.

Their leadership roles further highlight their well-roundedness and commitment to both academic excellence and student welfare.
