Legendary Nigerian musician, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, has come out to debunk rumours of his death, assuring fans that he is alive, healthy, and full of life.
The 83-year-old juju music icon addressed the fake news in a video posted on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, singing a vibrant gospel tune in English, Yoruba, and Pidgin to put the speculation to rest.
🎶 “Satan, you don lose o… Na lie lie you dey talk,” he sang, before stating, “It is fake news that started a few hours ago claiming that I, Evangelist Obey, have passed on to glory. It is a lie. I am alive.”
According to Obey, the rumour began circulating on Monday and caused unnecessary panic among fans and well-wishers.
His personal assistant, Tope Olukole, also confirmed to TVC News that the veteran singer is in good health and was recently spotted at the 50th birthday celebration of his son-in-law.
“Let’s set the record straight: Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi is alive and thriving!” Olukole said.
The hoax had triggered premature tributes and mourning posts across social media platforms until the singer himself stepped in to set the record straight — and in true Obey fashion, he did it with a song.
Obey’s public appearance comes just a month after his 83rd birthday, reminding fans once again of his enduring energy and spirit.
