A Lagos-based National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Ushie Uguamaye, may face a 30-day service extension with half pay after criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Uguamaye, who goes by @talktoraye on TikTok, recently posted a video calling out the government over the economic hardships Nigerians have faced since Tinubu took office. In another video, she claimed that an NYSC official called and threatened her over her post. She also shared a screenshot of a message—allegedly from NYSC officials—summoning her to report to the Eti-Osa Local Government office on Monday.
Expressing concern for her safety, Uguamaye said she has been receiving threats from anonymous sources since her video went viral.
Her post may have violated the NYSC Bye-Laws (Revised 2011), which prohibit corps members from being “rude to constituted authority” during their service. The law states that any corps member found guilty of this offense could have their service extended by at least 30 days with half pay.
Meanwhile, NYSC spokesperson Caroline Embu was unavailable for comment on the situation.
