In a heartwarming gesture to mark his 60th birthday, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has pledged to sponsor the education of 60 orphans up to the university level. This remarkable act of kindness underscores his commitment to supporting the less privileged and ensuring a brighter future for children in need.
Speaking at a gathering in Jos, where orphans from selected homes came to celebrate with him, Governor Mutfwang shared that his decision was a token of appreciation for God’s faithfulness in his life. Instead of focusing on personal festivities, he chose to give back in a way that would make a lasting impact.
“I want to declare today, on the occasion of my 60th birthday, that 60 of these children will be selected, and I will bear their responsibility as my family, by the grace of God, right through to their university education,” he announced.
Beyond individual sponsorship, the governor also assured continued support for orphanage homes across the state, promising that no child under their care would lack access to essential resources for their growth and education.
Governor Mutfwang took a moment to encourage the children, reminding them that their circumstances do not define their future.
“None of you is an accident; God had a plan for you before you were born,” he said. “Put your hands in His hands so that He will lead you, guide you, and preserve you.”
His words served as a powerful message of hope, urging the children to trust in God’s plan for their lives despite any hardships they may have faced.
At the event, the Plateau State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Caroline Dafur, praised the governor’s act of generosity. She, however, also highlighted the pressing issues of child abuse and trafficking in the state.
Dafur pledged to collaborate with relevant agencies and lawmakers to implement measures that protect vulnerable children. She also urged parents to be more mindful of their actions and ensure their children are safeguarded from harm.
The occasion was filled with joy as the orphans expressed their gratitude through heartfelt prayers, song presentations, and a special birthday cake-cutting ceremony in honor of the governor.
Governor Mutfwang’s gesture not only made his milestone birthday memorable but also reinforced the importance of compassion, social responsibility, and investing in the next generation. His commitment to these 60 children will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy, shaping lives and inspiring others to follow in his footsteps.
