The Labour Party has resolved to boycott the September 28 local government election in Anambra State.
The LP Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr. Theo Egbe, disclosed this to journalists on Thursday in Awka.
He said the party would also challenge the process in court over the Anambra State Electoral Commission’s failure to abide by the electoral guidelines.
Egbe said: “Labour Party will not play alongside the identified irregularities which is inability to follow provisions of the Electoral Act when conducting council polls.
“The state’s template for the proposed election should be in line with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines for conducting elections.”
He urged the state government to reschedule the election to meet INEC election standards.
He alleged that the LP office in Anambra State was sealed by suspected agents of the government on August 27 without notice.
The spokesman, however, appealed to LP members and people of the state not to take laws into their hands.
