The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has successfully rescued 14 individuals involved in a serious road accident at Ilaje, while heading toward Iyana-Oworonshoki on the Third Mainland Bridge. The crash involved a Mazda commercial bus and a Toyota Yaris.
According to a statement from LASTMA, signed by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, the accident was caused by reckless speeding. This led to the bus driver losing control, resulting in a forceful collision with the moving Toyota Yaris.
The impact caused multiple injuries, necessitating urgent emergency intervention. LASTMA reported that its officials, along with the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), responded swiftly by pulling 14 injured individuals from the wreckage, including the driver of the commercial bus.
Security personnel from the Alonge Police Station were also on the scene, maintaining order and assisting in the rescue efforts. After the rescue operation, all 14 victims were handed over to LASAMBUS personnel, who transported them to Gbagada General Hospital for immediate medical care.
In a statement regarding the incident, LASTMA General Manager Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki emphasized the importance of adhering to speed limits to prevent such tragedies. He stated, “There is a pressing need for both commercial and private motorists to comply with officially sanctioned speed limits to avert needless road fatalities.”
