The wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has called on members of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority Female Elite Corps to prioritise their health.
This, she said, was important in order to enhance effective traffic management, especially during the demanding Yuletide season.
Speaking on Wednesday while hosting the officers at the State House in Marina, Sanwo-Olu emphasised the importance of regular exercise and health checkups for the officers, whose roles expose them to environmental hazards.
“Your health is indispensable. Routine medical checkups are not just necessary but essential to preserving your productivity and resilience in the face of daily challenges,” she said.
She recommended activities such as swimming to improve physical fitness and urged the officers to be proactive about their respiratory health, given their exposure to harmful dust and exhaust fumes.
Sanwo-Olu also encouraged the officers to pursue self-development by acquiring digital skills and advancing academically.
“I want to encourage you to also pursue academics. Master’s is now the basic, so it is important to continue to develop yourselves academically,” she said.
She highlighted her office’s ongoing initiatives, including advocacy for the boy and girl child, training programs for women, and support for victims of gender-based violence.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olaleka Bakare-Oki, in his remarks, lauded the Female Elite Corps as an initiative designed to intensify public education on responsible driving practices, particularly during the high-traffic ember months.
“As an agency saddled with the responsibility of ensuring the safe movement of goods and passengers from Point A to Point B within a reasonable travel time, we want to ensure that we do everything necessary so that we can have an accident-free yuletide period,” Bakare-Oki said.
He reiterated LASTMA’s commitment to fostering effective traffic management across Lagos State.
