Lagos State Governor, Bababjide Sanwo-Olu has announced plans to inaugurate various completed road infrastructure projects across all five divisions of the state for public use from Monday, December 9.
The completed infrastructure set for inauguration comprise 36 roads, five bridges and a pedestrian bridge.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso and Special Adviser to Governor on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, revealed this at a media briefing on tye proposed inauguration of road projects, held at Alausa, Ikeja, on Friday.
Recall that Sanwo-Olu announced massive commissioning and handover of infrastructural projects throughout the state next week.
He made the announcement at the symbolic public presentation of cheques to beneficiaries, compensated for lands acquired by the State Government for ‘Overriding Public Interest’ at Adeyemi Bero Auditorium The Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos on Tuesday.
Daramola, in his address, said the event mark a significant milestone in the life of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Administration-
He noted that in the THEMES+development agenda of Sanwo-Olu’s administration, Traffic Management and Transportation, represents the first pillar because of its impact on the health, welfare and productivity of the people.
“This was why Mr Governor, in his address at the presentation of the Year 2025 Budget to the Highly Esteemed Lagos State House of Assembly last week said (and I quote) “Continuous investments in infrastructure are the backbone of our development agenda, the Greater Lagos we envision will emerge on the back of high-quality infrastructure that keeps pace with population growth,” Daramola stated.
He commended the governor, with his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, for their tremendous support in ensuring the completion of the projects.
“In a bid to grow the economy through a robust infrastructure portfolio, the Administration of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu audaciously embarked upon the provision of sustainable Road infrastructure in the State.
“It is important to mention that despite the global economic challenges and spiralling inflation which led to a major increase in the costs hitherto earmarked for the projects, almost to a point of abandonment.
“The administration of Mr Governor, Sanwo-Olu, prioritized the delivery of these projects. The administration has completed and is going to commission 36 Roads, 5 Bridges and a pedestrian Bridge to Lagosians in due course,
” Daramola said.
The projects to be commissioned, he stated are located in the following areas such as: Dopemu Agege, Alimosho, Amuwo-Odofin, Badagry, Epe, Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Kosofe, among others.
Daramola, however said the completed projects, other projects are at various stages of completion across the divisions of the State.
“That we can deliver these projects despite the global and national economic downturn is an affirmation of the conscious effort of the administration of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu to provide major infrastructures among the various divisions and fulfilment of our promise to the good people of the State,” he said.
Consequently, the governor is expected to commence the commissiong of projects on Monday December 9, 2024 with Abiola-Onijemo Link Road with Bridge in Ifako-Ijaiye LGA and the Alapere Pedestrian Bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area and on Tuesday 10th December 2024 the Ikoyi Network of Roads in Eti- Osa Local Government Area (Oyinkan Abayomi, Femi Okunnu, Macpherson, Ilabere, Ilu, Inupa and Kuramo.
Daramola stressed, “As the Administration progresses towards the halfway mark of the second term journey, we shall march on to consolidate the gains we have made in Infrastructure development even as we continue to look forward to continued collaboration with members of the Press.
“We shall finish strongly, intensifying the resolve to continue to build a Lagos that is safe, prosperous, and economically friendly.”
