Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, on Tuesday, charged the Edo State governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to fulfil his electoral promises to the people of the state.
Oba Ewuare II gave the advice when the governor-elect and his the deputy governor-elect, Dennis Idahosa, visited his palace in Benin City where they showed the Oba their Certificates of Return issued to them by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The traditional ruler, who expressed confidence in the ability of the governor-elect to deliver good governance, thanked God and his ancestors, including security agencies and President Bola Tinubu for the peaceful poll held on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
He said, “God works in a mysterious way. As you have said to me remember this palace is open to you.
“You will do your best to carry out the promises you made during your campaigns and more blessings will come.”
The monarch also said he would continue to pray without ceasing ahead of the forthcoming Emoro, also known as the new yam festival, and his 8th coronation anniversary.
Earlier in a brief remark, Okpebholo thanked the monarch for his prayers and said he and his deputy were in his palace to show him their Certificates of return.
He said, “We are here to present our Certificates of Return to you and to appreciate you for the prayers you offer always. We will do our best to ensure that we fulfil our promises to the people.”
