PalmPay Limited, a leading fintech company, is launching a new program to empower 5,000 women and young people in Kano State.
The company’s Managing Director, Chika Nwosu, shared the news on Wednesday during a visit to the Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II. He said the project is part of PalmPay’s 2025 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plan. The program targets women, youths, university students, and NYSC members.
“We came to seek the Emir’s blessings before starting the program in Kano,” Nwosu said.
Training and Tools for Small Businesses
PalmPay, which began operations in Nigeria five years ago, now has over 35 million users. It has also been named the second fastest-growing company in Africa and the top-growing fintech by the Financial Times.
The company plans to expand its impact in Northern Nigeria, with a strong focus on Kano. As part of the initiative, PalmPay will provide:
-
Financial literacy training
-
Support for women-led small businesses
-
Business tools for growth
“We’ll start in Fagge Local Government Area,” Nwosu said. “Market women will receive hands-on training and the tools they need to grow their businesses.”
Full Support from the Emir
The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, thanked PalmPay for its effort. He highlighted the role of fintech in building a strong financial system.
“We support this project and will do all we can to ensure it succeeds,” the Emir said.
He also directed local district leaders to assist PalmPay during the rollout of the program.
