The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that results for the rescheduled 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)—held between Friday and Monday—will be released on Wednesday, May 21.
The rescheduled UTME followed widespread backlash over mass failure in the initial exams, which JAMB attributed to technical glitches and human errors, especially in parts of Lagos and the South-East.
“The results of the candidates who took the rescheduled exam will be released on Wednesday,” said JAMB spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, during a press briefing.
What Went Wrong?
Out of the 1.9 million students who sat for the original UTME, over 1.5 million scored below 200 out of a possible 400—triggering concern among students, parents, and education stakeholders nationwide.
JAMB later launched an internal review and admitted to failures within its system. The Board discovered that technological malfunctions and human errors significantly impacted the scores.
In a rare emotional moment, JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede publicly accepted responsibility for the mishap and even shed tears while announcing a make-up exam for the affected candidates.
What Happens Next?
Candidates who took the rescheduled UTME can expect to see their results by Wednesday, May 21, as confirmed by the board.
