A young Nigerian doctor has stirred up social media after sharing a photo of herself assisting in a surgical procedure under less-than-ideal conditions.
The doctor, who posted the photo on X (formerly Twitter), was celebrating the opportunity to serve as an assistant surgeon — a big milestone in her medical journey.
What Caught Everyone’s Attention
While the doctor proudly shared the moment, what most Nigerians quickly noticed was not the achievement itself — but the setting.
In the picture, she was seen stitching a patient in near darkness, while an assistant stood by holding a phone flashlight to illuminate the area.
“This is Nigeria!”
The image quickly went viral, sparking concern and criticism from users who questioned why a medical procedure was being carried out without proper lighting.
Responding to the reactions, the doctor replied bluntly:
“This is Nigeria! I don’t know why most of you are surprised!”
Her comment struck a nerve, reflecting growing frustration over the poor state of infrastructure in public healthcare facilities across the country — especially the issue of unreliable electricity.
