Nigerian singer Michael Adebayo Olayinka, popularly known as Ruger, has opened up about his first heartbreak — an emotional experience he claims happened when he was just six years old.
Speaking during a recent episode of The Bro Bants podcast, the ‘Toma Toma’ hitmaker revealed that the heartbreak left a lasting impact on him and contributed to what he described as his “toxic” behavior growing up.
“There was this aunty that I liked. She used to call me ‘my boyfriend,’ so I assumed she was my woman,” Ruger recounted.
However, things took a dramatic turn one day when he witnessed the woman in an intimate moment with another man.
“I saw some guy smashing her through her window. The guy was tearing her up, bro. I cried. I was traumatised. I started singing ‘Imagine That’ by Styl-Plus. That experience broke my heart,” he said.
Ruger explained that the incident, though seemingly childish, deeply affected his perception of relationships and sparked emotional patterns that shaped his youth.
Fans React
The singer’s candid confession has sparked mixed reactions online — with some fans sympathizing with his childhood pain, while others found humor in how seriously he took the situation at such a young age.
Despite the early heartbreak, Ruger has gone on to enjoy a successful music career with hits like ‘Bounce,’ ‘Asiwaju,’ and ‘Red Flags.’
