Lagos-based televangelist, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has sparked fresh debate after urging his church members to disregard medical advice warning against excessive salt intake.
During a sermon on May 4, the founder of Christ Embassy played several video clips of white doctors questioning mainstream medical claims about salt being harmful to the body.
“We listen to the so-called professionals, and many have died listening to them,” Oyakhilome declared. “Think how many people have suffered strokes and all kinds of ailments because they listened to their doctor.”
“You Need More Salt” – Oyakhilome Claims
The pastor argued that many health complications are not due to salt, but rather fear-based decisions stemming from what he called misleading professional advice. He also claimed that praying in tongues gives him divine insight into matters like this.
“I speak in tongues and solutions come. You need salt—more salt, not less,” he said. “Even in hospitals, sick people are being treated with salt, but it’s repackaged and sold under different names.”
To support his view, he referenced Mark 9:50, quoting Jesus: “Salt is good. Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with each other.”
Mixed Reactions Online
The message has ignited strong reactions online. While some supporters agree with his interpretation and stance on natural health, critics warn that such advice could be dangerous and medically misleading, especially for individuals with hypertension, kidney issues, or heart conditions.
Health experts have consistently advised that excessive salt consumption can lead to serious health risks, including high blood pressure, stroke, and heart disease.
