BudgIT Founder Seun Onigbinde: “I Don’t Owe Anyone an Explanation for Deleting Old Tweets

Tinubu doesn't need 36 Ministers — Seun Onigbinde - Vanguard News

Seun Onigbinde, founder of civic tech platform BudgIT, has responded to the backlash over his deleted social media posts that previously criticized former Anambra governor Peter Obi.

Old tweets dating back to 2015 resurfaced recently, with critics accusing Onigbinde of hypocrisy for endorsing Obi for president years after those critical comments.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Onigbinde said he deleted or protected some of his tweets in response to what he described as “a coordinated wave of falsehoods, personal insults, and curses.”

“I don’t owe you that explanation, nor do I have the time or interest to engage in such distractions,” he said. “This space has always been, for me, a place to share, learn, and unwind.”

He added that any tweets lacking context or clarity may be removed at his discretion, but doing so doesn’t change his commitment to public accountability.

Onigbinde lamented the toxic nature of online discourse, calling X a “poisoned well” plagued by anonymity, monetized virality, and troll farms.

He urged young Nigerians to rise above toxic stereotypes and embrace respectful civic engagement built on facts and data.

“If you don’t follow my work in BudgIT, Tracka, or Ogbomoso but choose to show up with vile commentary, chances are you’ve already been muted or blocked. These are not acts of malice—they’re simply boundaries,” he said.
