I’m Holier Than You!’ — Lizzy Anjorin Fires Back at Gospel Star Tope Alabi”

Liz Anjorin to Tope Alabi: When others abandoned you, I stood by you |

Nollywood actress and entrepreneur, Lizzy Anjorin-Lawal, has sparked controversy after publicly declaring herself “holier and more impactful” than gospel music star Tope Alabi, following a dramatic encounter at a surprise birthday event.

The Incident: A Surprise Gone Wrong

The drama began on Friday, April 4, 2025, when Lizzy’s fans, alongside her husband, Lateef Lawal, planned a surprise birthday celebration at her Lagos store. As part of the surprise, Tope Alabi and her husband, Soji Alabi, were invited to perform.

However, a now-viral video shows the Alabis walking out of the venue without singing upon discovering it was a birthday celebration — a setting they reportedly deemed inappropriate for their ministry.

Lizzy Reacts: “I Am Holier Than You”

In an Instagram video posted shortly after, Lizzy distanced herself from the celebration, saying she does not celebrate birthdays and was unaware of the fans’ plan.

“Only a wicked person would say I celebrate birthdays. If I had invited them myself, I wouldn’t have paid a dime,” she said.

But the actress didn’t stop there. In a follow-up video, she directly called out Tope Alabi, questioning the singer’s actions and spiritual integrity.

“I am holier than you, Aunty mi Tope. I have done more good. I have added more value to society than you,” Lizzy said boldly.
“If you judge me, I am thankful that God does not judge me.”

She went further to claim that many of Tope’s contributions have been limited to her inner circle, unlike her own broader public influence.

Social Media Reactions: Fans Divided

The clash has stirred heated reactions online, with fans of both celebrities taking sides.
While some argue that Tope Alabi had every right to decline performing in a setting she felt uncomfortable with, others criticised her for accepting the invitation only to back out upon arrival.

“She should have politely declined beforehand,” one user wrote.
“She’s right to protect the sanctity of her ministry,” another replied.

As of the time of writing, Tope Alabi has not issued any official response to Lizzy Anjorin’s comments. Meanwhile, the conversation continues to trend, adding to the long list of celebrity controversies in Nigeria’s entertainment space.
