The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two brothers with 5 kilograms of cocaine at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
The suspects, John Abugu (43) and Kenneth Abugu (31), were caught on April 3, 2025, while trying to board a flight to India. They told NDLEA officers they were traveling for medical reasons. However, officers found cocaine hidden inside the walls of their suitcases.
On the same day, NDLEA operatives intercepted a 20-year-old Ghanaian-British student, Parker Darren Hazekia Osei, at the Lagos airport. He was carrying 36 parcels of Loud, a strong type of cannabis, weighing 19.4 kilograms.
Osei claimed to be a computer science student at East London University. He said he picked up the drugs in Bangkok and was delivering them in Nigeria.
In Kogi State, NDLEA arrested a 33-year-old woman, Ngozi Ogili, with 3kg of methamphetamine. She was traveling from Lagos to Abuja in a commercial bus when she was caught along the Okene-Lokoja highway.
A follow-up raid in Apo Mechanic, Abuja, uncovered more drugs, including Loud and Colorado, both synthetic strains of cannabis.
In Abia State, a 75-year-old man, Nna Nnanna Felix, was caught with 1.6kg of skunk, another type of cannabis. The arrest took place in Umunteke Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area.
Also in Abia, David Chinemerem (21) was arrested with 2,050 ampoules of pentazocine, a prescription painkiller often abused.
